Challenge
Maintain industry-standard efficiency measurements at production throughput
PV cell efficiency testing is critical for both manufacturing process control and downstream panel assembly. The customer needed to automate flash-based I-V testing without compromising strict industry requirements for spectrum, intensity, and uniformity, while also supporting multiple cell form factors, high throughput, and automated sorting across multiple output lanes.

Innovation
Integration of standard flash test technology with custom high-speed automation
We worked closely with the customer to integrate proven test technology with factory-ready automation. Key elements of the solution included:
- Integration of an industry-standard I-V flash test head from a known manufacturer
- Custom automation to handle multiple cell form factors at high throughput
- Dual input lanes and multiple output lanes for carrier handling and sorting
- Automated mechanisms to position cells, make electrical contact, and transfer parts through the test process
- System software to execute testing, qualify results, and control sorting logic
Result
Reliable, high-throughput PV cell efficiency testing
The completed system delivered accurate, industry-standard efficiency measurements while meeting the customer’s throughput and reliability requirements, enabling automated testing and sorting within their manufacturing environment.
