Two Sewtec apprentices shortlisted for national engineering award

Sewtec’s Jordan Wright and Tomas Preidys have been shortlisted as finalists for ‘engineering apprentice of the year’ at the prestigious Make UK awards.

Now a fully qualified Sewtec employee, Jordan is nominated for the final-year apprentice award. Tomas is currently in the second year of his apprenticeship to become a C.N.C machinist and has been shortlisted for the first-year apprentice award.

Both shone out from among hundreds of entrants across Yorkshire, Humberside and the North East, passing the first round of judging in the annual awards run by the manufacturers’ association, formerly called the EEF.

Following further judging, the regional winners will be announced at the Make UK North East, Yorkshire & Humberside Dinner on October 8 at the National Railway Museum in York.

All Sewtec’s apprentices are offered permanent roles with the business, because we do not see apprentices as cheap labour but the future talent of our business. When we are recruiting for apprentices, we are really recruiting for Sewtec employees.

Currently, we have five apprentices, with three more due to join later this year, and we intend for all these to be retained in the business.
