Automation company Sewtec has won the international trade category at the prestigious Yorkshire Business Masters Awards organised by thebusinessdesk.com.

Designer Paul Briggs and quality inspector Glenn Layfield were presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Queens Hotel Leeds, attended by around 260 of the region’s business leaders.

The accolade represents the UK automation company’s fourth major award win during the past six months and its second win for achievements as an exporter.

Sewtec designs and manufactures bespoke automation systems for the food, pharmaceutical, personal care and tobacco sectors. Its clients include Nestlé, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble.

More than 85 per cent of the company’s sales are exports. It has strong and growing sales in 17 markets across all six continents including the USA, Brazil, China, Germany, Russia and Australia.

Commenting on the win, Sewtec director of business support, Mark Atkins, said: “This award is testament to our excellent reputation on a global stage.

“Winning our fourth business award in six months demonstrates the compelling proposition we offer to the market. We continue to experience growing demand from international markets and have a very positive outlook for the year.

“Sewtec’s team is dedicated and highly skilled, offering innovative design and engineering alongside outstanding customer service. As we grow, we continue to recruit for brilliant and dynamic individuals who enjoy a rewarding and challenging work environment.”

In the past sixth months, Sewtec also topped the digital technology and engineer category at the Insider Made in Yorkshire Awards, won Exporter of the Year at the Yorkshire PostExcellence in Business Awards and was crowned best UK pharmaceutical robotics and automation specialist in the GHPManufacturing and Packaging Awards.
